Why Sci-Fi

People often ask me… Oh, c’mon, who am I kidding? Nobody care. But as I choose the Sci-Fi genre for writing, I’d like to tell why.

Sci-Fi is an extremely serious thing because it has very scientific determination. Science fiction (sometimes shortened to sci-fi or SF) is a speculative fiction genre that typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life. It has been called the “literature of ideas”, and often explores the potential consequences of scientific, social, and technological innovations. It’s Wikipedia, of course. Not the best determination, but looking good, serious, and very academic. So let it be.

Well, I could say that I admire the mission of Sci-Fi (“literature of ideas”, you know), or the educational role (not my case), or money perspectives (ha-ha… Not my case, for now, I hope), or something else wise and smart, but I wouldn’t.

For me, as a reader, Sci-Fi was always great fun.

For me, as a writer, Sci-Fi is a great challenge. When you are writing Sci-Fi, you should construct a Universe. With history, social structure, technologies, creatures, architecture, psychology … endless list. Then you should weave your story into this Universe. Or, you should put unusual characters, extraordinary situations, and uncommon problems in regular life.

Wow, that sounds pathetic.

Put simply, I’m reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy for 40 years, love this genre, and having fun writing Sci-Fi stories.

See you!
